Antique Whiting & Davis Enamel Mesh Purse Floral Art Deco Flapper Bag

Beautiful antique Whiting & Davis metal mesh purse featuring a colorful painted enamel design in red/orange, blue and green against silvertone metal mesh.

This is an especially decorative example with an elaborate engraved and pierced metal frame featuring scrolling floral details, a kiss-lock closure, and an unusual open-link chain handle. The bottom of the purse has a lovely scalloped/pointed mesh fringe design.

The interior retains its original Whiting & Davis Co. Bags / Reg. U.S. Pat. Off. metal tag.

I would date this piece approximately to the 1920s–1930s, making it a wonderful original Jazz Age/Art Deco-era accessory.

Condition: Antique pre-owned condition with age-appropriate wear. There is visible loss/wear to the painted enamel decoration throughout, along with patina, oxidation/tarnish and surface wear to the metal. The mesh appears remarkably substantial for its age, but please carefully review all photographs for any small separations, missing links or other condition issues. Frame and chain also show age-related wear. No cleaning or polishing has been attempted.
