Antique 1920s Flapper Mesh Purse Painted Enamel Art Deco -Unmarked Whiting Davis

Beautiful antique Art Deco era metal mesh flapper purse, dating to approximately the 1920s–early 1930s.

This wonderful little evening bag features a finely linked metal mesh body decorated in a striking geometric pattern of mustard yellow, cream and dark brown/black. The pattern has a wonderful Jazz Age look and is finished along the bottom with a scalloped pointed fringe.

The gold-tone metal frame is particularly lovely, with embossed floral and scrolling decoration and a classic ball kiss-lock closure. The purse hangs from an elegant elongated-link metal chain.

The construction and styling are strongly reminiscent of Whiting & Davis mesh purses of the period, although I have not located a maker’s mark and am therefore selling it as unsigned.

Purse body approximately 3.5” wide x 5” long
Strap drop approximately 5.5”

Condition:
Good antique condition with age-related wear. There is visible wear/loss to the painted finish throughout the mesh, which gives the purse a wonderful authentic aged appearance. The photos also show some looseness/separation and irregularity to the mesh near the frame/hinge areas, so please review all photographs carefully for condition. The frame shows age-related wear and patina. The purse retains its original antique character and displays beautifully.

Unsigned. Possibly Whiting & Davis, as many had metal hang tags and some have fallen off through the years.
